CodiumAI-related names persist in tutorials, package listings and discussions, but the publisher’s September 2024 announcement records the Qodo rebrand. Clean canonical names matter because users may otherwise confuse an AI testing plugin, PR review automation and an unrelated product with a similar spelling.
What the product actually does
The Qodo announcement dated 30 September 2024 says the company was renamed from Codium to Qodo and names its IDE and pull-request product lines. It connects the former Codiumate identity to Qodo Gen and PR-Agent to Qodo Merge. A current Qodo IDE release note also documents local review workflows before committing. These are separate features, and a historical mention of “CodiumAI” is not enough to infer which extension, distribution or licensing agreement a writer meant.
A controlled evaluation workflow
When migrating a software inventory, capture the original name, publisher domain, package/extension identifier, version and first-party rebrand date. Map historical aliases to a Qodo canonical product only after confirming they match the same maintained component. For a real repository pilot, record whether the tool produces local pre-commit feedback or hosted PR review; review acceptance must be owned by a human even when the generated changes appear sound.
Limitations and version boundaries
Different names can survive in GitHub repos, marketplace extension IDs, CI commands and screenshots after a marketing change. Do not rewrite an immutable 2023 release note as though the Qodo brand existed then. The 2024 announcement cannot substantiate every current release feature, and a current release note cannot prove when a historical plugin was introduced. Price and license labels require a dated AI10 snapshot.
Repository security and data governance
Rebranding introduces supply-chain risk when users search for old download links and find third-party mirrors. Prefer the first-party publisher, verify signatures and extension publisher IDs, and use the same access assessment applied to any review bot. Removing a dead alias from the search index is different from deleting a historical canonical record; preserve redirects and source links.
Who should consider it
This entry belongs in product-name disambiguation and engineering history, not in an inflated list of three competing assistants. It is particularly useful during migration of a tool directory, procurement spreadsheet or legacy CI script that refers to PR-Agent or Codiumate.
Alternatives and engineering trade-offs
Compare Qodo’s present tool surfaces on their own evidence. Continue and other coding assistants are not rename successors of CodiumAI; similar letters in brand names are not evidence of an acquisition.
Acceptance and reproducibility checklist
- Record the exact installed version, plugin publisher, identity provider, workspace and server/model selection; public documentation may describe a newer build.
- Use a nonproduction repository without real secrets, with fixed acceptance tests and a known starting commit; note the country, tenant and contracted edition.
- Record approval prompts, repository and network permissions, all files changed, commands invoked and failure paths as distinct observations.
- Review source changes and explanations against requirements; run tests, static checks and security scans independently; block unapproved deployment.
- Retain evidence of a human review, rollback and access-revocation plan, and route all unverified price, region and contract items to the responsible owner.
Dates, commercial terms and what remains unknown
This is an editorial snapshot as of 25 October 2026. Scope: corporate rename dated 2024-09-30. Sources below are first-party descriptions and should not be treated as independent hands-on results. Exact plan pricing, seat allowances, general worldwide availability, commercial license guarantees, model IDs and contractual retention terms are not claimed without dated evidence. Where a living documentation page lacks a publication date, this article does not project its features backward. Editorial status is distinct from WordPress publication: the shared import contract has not been checked.
