TOOL DOSSIER / LOGICALLY

Afforai became Logically.app: a source-first research and writing workflow

Searching for Afforai in 2026 takes readers to Logically.app, not a second competing research assistant.

Why the name matters

Searching for Afforai in 2026 takes readers to Logically.app, not a second competing research assistant. The company announced the rebrand on 2 March 2025 and described a transition from a research chatbot toward an integrated academic workspace. Its original Afforai identity remains valuable for finding old guides, citations and billing correspondence. Do not create separate product records for the old and new names.

The working environment

The vendor positions Logically as a web workspace for keeping research literature together, annotating documents, asking AI-assisted questions, organizing references and drafting a paper. That combination serves a narrower task than a general-purpose chatbot: maintaining a defensible link between a written claim and a real publication. The vendor help center still uses both names in parts of its documentation.

Who should evaluate it

A graduate student with fifty PDFs, a librarian teaching literature-review technique or a small research team managing a shared reading list might value the reference manager more than the chat function. A journalist collecting primary reports could use a similar organization scheme, but must confirm copyright permissions and avoid treating a generated citation as a checked bibliographic record.

A concrete workflow

Start with five open-access papers on one question. Save each paper with its DOI and publication year, create a folder for that question and tag papers as read, uncertain or contradicted. Ask the assistant to locate definitions, but follow the reference back to the original page. Write a paragraph from independently checked notes and ensure its bibliography matches the actual papers, not merely a machine-suggested list.

Evidence quality

Searchable PDFs, citation metadata and full texts are different kinds of evidence. A paper may have an abstract but no authorized full text; a cited article can exist yet be irrelevant to the claim. Check page numbers, retractions, edition dates and whether a result reflects a quotation or an AI inference. The platform cannot guarantee that a literature search is comprehensive.

Privacy and collaboration

A research library can include unpublished manuscripts, private peer reviews and institution-licensed material. Confirm whose workspace holds each document, who can view shared folders and what happens to uploaded files after an account closes. The 2025 rename announcement said existing accounts and data would carry over, but that statement is not a current retention or data-processing guarantee.

Leaving the platform

Build an exit test early: export a sample bibliography, a manuscript and annotated documents using whatever options the signed-in product actually provides. Do not assume a source citation link is portable to Zotero, BibTeX or Word until its identifiers, notes and attachments survive a round trip. Retain the original PDFs in an independent, authorized library.

Plans and alternatives

This guide deliberately states no subscription price or quota; a dated pricing reference maintains dated pricing snapshots. Zotero supplies a reference-manager-centered path, while Anara emphasizes source-grounded AI research and exports. Scite and Elicit answer different discovery questions. Choose by the portability of the bibliography and quality of source checking, not by vendor-stated accuracy.
