Release context

Krea’s May 12, 2026 announcement introduced Krea 2 as a foundation image model trained from scratch with an emphasis on aesthetic expression and style control. The vendor later updated the explanatory article in August 2026; claims added after the launch must be treated as later documentation, not retroactive launch capabilities. The most useful distinction for designers is between asking for an object and providing a structured visual taste reference to shape how that object appears.

How the image workflow actually works

Moodboards can encode texture, lighting, palette and compositional rhythm, but visual conditioning can also inject unintended motifs or bias. Rather than “make it look expensive,” a controlled art-direction test can present a dated reference board with a grainy 35mm photograph, a muted swatch pair and a geometrically restrained layout. The team should define whether a model is expected to transfer style only or also repeat a particular object: these are different tasks with different rights issues.

A practical production example

A publisher planning five articles on future architecture can create two reference boards, one with grainy film texture and another with flat geometric editorial drawing. Keep the same scene briefs and see whether the style distinction survives across different buildings and perspectives. Record which reference was supplied to each render, and reject outputs that turn speculative concept art into apparently documentary photography without a visible editorial description.

A concrete quality-control test

For a real moodboard trial, reviewers should not know which internal team favored each visual direction. Present the same prompts with two reference-board conditions, then ask for independent comments on palette, composition, texture and recognizability. Keep any photographic references traceable to licensed files and use sufficiently different approved originals to avoid replicating a single artist’s composition. A production handoff should list the board, source rights, generated derivative ID, reviewer notes and the final editable master. An attractive vendor gallery is a starting point for investigation, not a comparative score.

Limitations and rights checks

The provider’s examples and quality statements have not been independently reproduced in this package. Current tier access, region support, API billing and exact output dimensions depend on versioned documentation. A moodboard assembled from other creators’ images may need rights clearance, and a style reference does not confer ownership of underlying copyrighted work. The process still needs manual typography, geometry and publication review.

When to choose this approach

Use Krea 2 for exploring visual languages and translating a moodboard into candidate illustrations. Choose a conventional design system and retained editable masters for production campaigns requiring pixel-exact assets.

Implementation and acceptance checklist

  1. Version-control every moodboard and its source images.
  2. Run matched scene briefs across different boards.
  3. Have reviewers score style fit separately from subject accuracy.
  4. Retain a layer-based master for later corrections.
  5. Verify 2026-specific rights and account access before commercial deployment.

Access, costs and dated applicability

Dates and capabilities refer to the documented release or method identified above, not to every later version. This archive does not assert current region-specific access, account-tier inclusion, credit usage, exact API pricing or a definitive commercial-use permission. Those fields remain unresolved until authoritative, cutoff-matched plan and rights material is attached by AI 10 and editorial/legal review. No images were generated or tested for this article.
