Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Runtime region matrix

Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Runtime is infrastructure for operating an agent, not a guarantee that every AgentCore component is present in every cloud region. The operational question is where the runtime, memory, identity, browser and evaluation services can run together while respecting the application’s actual data boundary.

How it works

AWS release notes date AgentCore’s initial general availability to October 2025 in nine specified regions. The same notes describe a January 2026 expansion for Runtime and related tools into more locations. This historical progression is more useful than copying an undated region list, because AWS expands services independently and later documentation may show features that were absent at the cutoff. Runtime placement and inference placement must be assessed separately; a region-enabled deployment does not prove a particular model, policy service or network option is available there.

A practical, bounded workflow

Consider an EU customer-support knowledge assistant. List its required functions before selecting a region: agent execution, retrieval datastore, connection to customer CRM, state persistence, logging and optional browser automation. Map each component to a documented region and account permission. Resolve service-to-service data transfers, secrets storage and observability destinations before rollout. For a multi-region service, compare the flow in normal operation with fallback behavior during a regional outage; do not silently relocate private prompts or customer records.

Failure modes and limits

The recurring failure is treating a checkmark in one AWS table as proof that an entire workflow is regional. A server running in Europe may still send model inference elsewhere, or an evaluation pipeline may create traces in a different location. Some AgentCore subfeatures were preview-only at particular dates, and the current documentation may contain subsequent additions. Keep a dated matrix and label unsupported combinations unknown rather than assuming they work.

Deployment controls

Assign responsibility for each transition: scheduled, running, awaiting evidence, awaiting approval, writing, reconciled, canceled or unresolved. The controller, not a free-form language response, decides whether a next action is authorized. Persist operation IDs and deadlines so a restart does not erase obligations or repeat committed effects.

When to choose this approach

Choose AgentCore when the surrounding IAM, networking, application deployment and operational requirements justify AWS-hosted runtime controls. A simple Lambda-triggered workflow or existing scheduler can be easier for deterministic tasks. Do not present a current subscription or quota as historical; consult the time-stamped service documentation, AWS account limits and the separate AI 10 price archive.

What to evaluate before production

For each required region, validate service creation, identity, secrets, network egress, observability collection, deletion and disaster recovery with a staging account. Record the exact SDK, region, UTC run date and pass/fail evidence; reject deployment when a dependency cannot be placed within the approved data geography.

Version, market and tier caution (25 October 2026): This is a technical and operational guide, not a live entitlement, pricing or geographic-availability certification. Numeric commercial limits and undocumented release dates are intentionally omitted. Reconfirm the exact account, deployment region, access policy and vendor release before procurement or publication.
