Bito AI Code Review: Distinguish IDE Feedback, Git Reviews and Local Indexes

An IDE review performed before a commit is not the same operation as a pull-request review performed by a Git service. Bito supports both categories in its documentation and has historically changed availability between them. A useful guide must ask which file snapshot the reviewer sees and when the human developer still has an opportunity to reject the suggestion.

What the official product can and cannot do

Bito’s IDE documentation describes selecting local, staged or uncommitted changes and applying suggested fixes through a diff. Its Git review documentation describes PR/MR feedback for GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket. Separate documentation explains a locally stored code index used to retrieve relevant context that may be sent to an LLM when the user asks a repository question. “Local index” does not imply every related inference is local.

A practical evaluation workflow

For a local workflow, review a small staged patch, then alter the working tree and compare results to see whether the scope choice matters. For Git integration, authorize a single repository and review a draft PR before adding bot comments to normal team traffic. Inspect how suggestions are accepted or undone, and ensure accepted edits require normal tests and branch review.

Limitations and historical pitfalls

Bito’s August 2024 announcement is historical evidence, not proof every 2026 tenant has identical access. Vendor release history also recorded a temporary withdrawal of the IDE review agent in February 2025. Seat/plan prerequisites must be confirmed from the actual tenant; avoid generalizing a trial banner into a current universal free tier.

Data handling and permission boundary

Document which code remains on the developer machine, what code snippets may reach hosted models, and whether the Git application can read all projects. If the repo has secrets, use exclusion checks and internal synthetic tests rather than trusting a headline that an index is local. Do not grant write rights to a reviewer merely to post comments.

Who should use this approach

Bito is especially relevant for teams that want early feedback before pushing plus a separate server-side review. Its value should be measured by actionable findings and reduced rework, not raw comment volume.

Alternatives and trade-offs

Use Git-native Graphite or Greptile for centralized PR review; use IDE linting or static analysis when deterministic policy checks are the main requirement.

Version, tier, region and evidence status

This article is an editorial snapshot checked against first-party material on 2026-10-25. Version or historical applicability: IDE review introduced 2024-08; documentation describes later workflows. The exact software build in a reader’s organization, eligibility by country, enterprise agreement, separate provider model rates, code retention and full regional list have not been validated; such fields remain unknown rather than being guessed. Product statements are attributed to first-party descriptions, not independent hands-on tests. License guarantees, prices and seat limits require AI 10 dated snapshots or signed terms. Unverified details do not become timeless facts because they appear in current online documentation.

Deployment acceptance checklist

  1. Write the intended job and acceptance criteria; record the installed client release, plugin publisher, connected model/provider and tenant.
  2. Use a consented test repository with zero real secrets; capture installation permissions, processor regions, Git App grants and available audit logs.
  3. Verify the task boundary with a test that should fail when unauthorized: blocked file, network host or protected branch.
  4. Review proposed changes or comments against known requirements; run regression, security and integration checks independently of the agent.
  5. Document the owner, offboarding procedure, rollback limits and whether a formal procurement/privacy sign-off is still pending.
