A terminal coding agent can transform a prompt into file edits, installations, network requests and test commands. Auditing its work requires more than saving the final Git diff: teams must know which identity ran it, which commands were proposed, which actions were approved and which external services received information.
What the product actually does
Tencent’s CodeBuddy CLI reference documents interactive prompts, pipeline input, continued sessions, resume-by-ID and MCP configuration. GitHub Actions separately documents token permissions at workflow and job level. These are different contexts, but they demonstrate a common principle: command logs, session resumes and CI execution credentials form an auditable authority chain. A text transcript by itself is not proof of what a child process executed, and a green build is not evidence of least privilege.
A controlled evaluation workflow
Write an approval log schema before running an agent: session ID, user, repository commit, client version, tool name, redacted command, working directory, host touched, authorization result and time. Use a disposable repo to test denied reads outside the workspace, blocked writes to protected files and prevented network access to an unauthorized domain. Exercise session-resume behavior and inspect whether old approvals persist. In CI, use the minimum `GITHUB_TOKEN` rights and require manual checks for write-capable jobs.
Limitations and version boundaries
Many products use different definitions of “auto approve,” “sandbox,” or “safe command.” Those words do not describe kernel-level containment or prove that every nested subprocess is logged. Terminal history can be truncated, and a network request made by a build dependency can bypass an agent UI’s visible action list. Document gaps explicitly and preserve system-level logs where enterprise policy allows.
Repository security and data governance
Logs often contain secrets and customer data. Redact at source and protect audit storage with access controls and retention limits; do not paste raw command logs into another model to summarize them. Use short-lived tokens and separate read-only investigation from write/deploy accounts. A PR approval does not retroactively authorize a command that already accessed a sensitive path.
Who should consider it
This checklist is for teams enabling agentic CLIs in workstations or CI. It should culminate in a testable permission policy and incident response procedure: revoke the token, freeze the workspace, preserve evidence and replay from a known commit. No specific vendor guarantees compliance without a deployment-level test.
Alternatives and engineering trade-offs
Use GitHub’s workflow approval and branch protection as independent barriers; pair them with OS sandboxing, secret managers and code review. No single agent permission prompt covers the entire execution chain.
Acceptance and reproducibility checklist
- Record the exact installed version, plugin publisher, identity provider, workspace and server/model selection; public documentation may describe a newer build.
- Use a nonproduction repository without real secrets, with fixed acceptance tests and a known starting commit; note the country, tenant and contracted edition.
- Record approval prompts, repository and network permissions, all files changed, commands invoked and failure paths as distinct observations.
- Review source changes and explanations against requirements; run tests, static checks and security scans independently; block unapproved deployment.
- Retain evidence of a human review, rollback and access-revocation plan, and route all unverified price, region and contract items to the responsible owner.
Dates, commercial terms and what remains unknown
This is an editorial snapshot as of 25 October 2026. Scope: method guide anchored to 2026 documented CLI and GitHub Actions. Sources below are first-party descriptions and should not be treated as independent hands-on results. Exact plan pricing, seat allowances, general worldwide availability, commercial license guarantees, model IDs and contractual retention terms are not claimed without dated evidence. Where a living documentation page lacks a publication date, this article does not project its features backward. Editorial status is distinct from WordPress publication: the shared import contract has not been checked.
