Notion AI Credits: The October 2026 Rollout Has Two Effective Dates

Notion’s new workspace AI credit allowances cannot be applied to every existing workspace on 25 October 2026.

Notion’s new workspace AI credit allowances cannot be applied to every existing workspace on 25 October 2026.

Commercial evidence policy: The figures in this article are documented first-party list references checked on 25 October 2026, with any original publication or effective date separated in the data files. Account eligibility, geography, tax, billing cadence and volume commitments can alter actual invoices; unknown effective dates remain null.

New versus existing workspaces

Notion explicitly states that its newer Business and Enterprise AI credit system starts for new workspaces on 19 October 2026, while existing workspaces transition on 2 November 2026. That second date lies after the 25 October editorial cutoff. A historical page must not portray legacy customer workspaces as already migrated. The product’s subscription fee and its new AI usage-credit policy also have different commercial origins and cannot be represented by one generic plan row.

Two different included credit pools

The help documentation describes 1,500 Standard credits and 500 Select credits per member monthly, subject to plan or purchase arrangement. Standard usage lets Notion select the model; Select applies when a user chooses a model or invokes certain custom agents. Mixing the pools into one interchangeable 2,000-credit balance would obscure control differences and possible expiration. A company should monitor workspace member totals, individual use patterns and the specific action consuming each pool.

The seat fee is not the agent token rate

Notion’s global USD plan page shows Business at $20 per member monthly in the displayed monthly mode, while Enterprise pricing requires contact with sales. The price page also describes additional Custom Agent Notion credits, with a published $10 per 1,000 credit figure. These units should not be equated with third-party OpenAI token prices. An internal automation using an external API could incur that separate service bill even if its Notion account has unused included credits.

A two-month transition budget

Suppose an organisation has 12 existing Business seats at the displayed $20 list fee. The subscription baseline is 12×$20 = $240 per month before applicable tax or discounts. For October 2026, do not multiply 12 by the new Standard/Select credit quotas without checking the workspace’s effective migration date. In November, activate the new credit rules only from their actual effective date and count approved top-ups independently. Record each credit family as its own meter.

Before choosing a paid tier

Obtain the billing quote for the exact Notion product, account geography, tier, model or subscription, currency and commitment length. If the provider offers several kinds of meters, forecast each independently rather than summing quantities in incompatible units. The relevant captured meters here include additional_credits_per_1000, included_select_credits_per_member_month, included_standard_credits_per_member_month, seat_month. Build a low, expected and high workload from your own request logs or editorial schedule; a pricing page is not a credible estimate of how many retries or approvals your team will need.

For governance, add an approval threshold for paid overages, reconcile invoices with metered activity, and schedule a quarterly or release-triggered source audit. The absence of an identified enterprise rate, promotional expiry or regional tax line is not evidence that the amount is zero. This guide does not represent a product trial, capability benchmark, procurement offer or warranty of uninterrupted access.

Historical availability and boundaries

Preserve the precise source version, checked date and any stated effective date before reusing these figures. A model launch announcement may confirm an introductory token rate without proving which private offers remain available; a mutable plan page can describe a later product state. If a source changes after this cutoff, publish a new snapshot instead of silently editing the historical record. Specialised product evaluations belong to the relevant AI 02–09 editorial teams, while this article documents the billing model and its limitations.
