Pika’s 2.2 family is well suited to the question ‘How do I get from this visual state to that one?’ Its Pikaframes feature takes a beginning and ending frame and synthesizes movement between them. It can be useful for simple transitions, stylized reveals and short insert shots, but a carefully chosen pair of stills matters more than a long wish list in the prompt.
First-party capability evidence
Pika’s official FAQ identifies Pika 2.2 as offering 720p and 1080p output, with conventional text-to-video and image-to-video generations at five or ten seconds. It describes Pikaframes as a first-and-last-frame workflow. The same FAQ contains inconsistent phrasing about the maximum Pikaframes duration: its introductory passage refers to up to ten seconds, while a later duration answer says up to twenty-five seconds. Until clarified through a dated vendor setting or documentation change, the extended maximum belongs in review rather than a published-ready numerical field.
The FAQ gives model- and resolution-specific credit examples, such as a five-second 720p Pika 2.2 text or image generation at six credits and ten seconds at twelve credits. These are not universal charges for Pikaframes, Pikaswaps or Pikascenes. Pika says Pro and Fancy plans support watermark-free downloads, whereas shared videos may display a watermark. Check the actual export mode; removing a visible logo does not clear rights to the source images.
How to direct a transition
The safest starting pair represents the same subject, lighting family and camera geometry. If the opening frame is a locked-off exterior and the ending frame is a totally unrelated close-up, the model must invent implausible spatial continuity. Where a hard cut would convey the story more honestly, use a cut in the editing timeline instead of forcing a synthetic morph.
Write an action path rather than two unrelated descriptions: ‘the curtain lifts gently; the camera tracks forward; the hidden room becomes visible at the end.’ Keep the total action feasible within the documented short output window. Check for object duplication midway and changes in face or product silhouette. If the model misinterprets a prop, fix the stills rather than stacking contradictory negative prompts.
Production positioning
Pikaswaps and Pikadditions are separate editing features with their own restrictions and rates; do not assign a Pika 2.2 generation tariff to them. Use the original stills as source-of-truth artifacts and keep permission records for recognizable subjects. For client work, confirm current territory, tier, credits and watermark setting at checkout. Treat any provider comparison as qualitative workflow fit, not a synthetic independent ranking.
Worked production example
For an opening title sequence, the first approved still could show a closed illustrated book and the last the same book open under a reading lamp. Check that the spine, table edge and lamp direction agree before submitting them to Pikaframes. A transition in which the book turns into a different object might be aesthetically interesting yet fail the commissioned concept. Time the reveal inside the proven five- or ten-second control path rather than relying on the provider FAQ’s contradictory extended maximum. Add exact title typography in a conventional graphics layer.
Relevant alternatives and trade-offs
When first/last stills are not required, text-led Runway or image-led Luma may fit; for exact transitions use a conventional compositing timeline.
Production-limit verification boundary
For Pika (2.2 / Pikaframes), published feature descriptions do not by themselves prove a specific account’s rendering duration, resolution, watermark, audio synchronization, commercial rights or credit charge. Test the precise endpoint and plan using consented assets, retain returned job metadata and verify any costs against an official dated tariff before making production commitments.
Duration evidence and current interface
The current Pika FAQ says Pikaframes accepts two to five still images and creates motion between them. Its statement that Video Studio can support clips up to 30 seconds with supported models is not a Pikaframes-specific duration guarantee. Neither a 10-second nor a 25-second maximum for the historical Pika 2.2 path can be verified from the live FAQ inspected on 25 October 2026. Confirm the model selector and render duration in the actual account before quoting a maximum.
