Amazon Q Business was positioned as an enterprise retrieval assistant that answered questions against permissions-aware internal content. AWS now points readers toward Amazon Quick as its next evolution. Existing Q Business deployments still require operational support and migration diligence; this is not a recommendation for an unverified new procurement.
Product: Amazon Q Business · Lifecycle review: additional verification required
What this is — and who should use it
This historical and transitional profile serves administrators, existing Q Business customers and teams consolidating internal knowledge search. AWS’s service documentation describes source connectors, identity integration and generated citations. Those descriptions illuminate how the product functioned; they do not override a newer lifecycle notice on the product site.
A real-world decision workflow
Begin a transition assessment with an inventory of Q Business applications, indexes, source connectors, document ACLs, workforce identities and user subscriptions. Select a representative set of questions that cover confidential records, conflicting versions and missing documents. Re-run these against the proposed replacement and verify both answer quality and access denial for unauthorized users. Compare source URLs and metadata, not just how fluent the new answer sounds.
Onboarding, access and deployment
Q Business supported an administrator-created application, user identity setup and connected data ingestion. Its docs mention IAM Identity Center and alternative identity federation, but the exact federation limitations depend on implementation. As of the October 25, 2026 editorial check, the AWS product page displayed an end-of-support notice that new customers could no longer start with Q Business. The notice does not provide a date of that policy change; the historical effective date remains unknown.
Capability limits and unreliable assumptions
This record is marked review precisely because the end-of-support notice lacks a confirmed publication/effective date and full contractual migration timetable. Avoid using a cached price card to imply new-customer availability. The ability to retain an old index during migration depends on AWS’s current instructions and the specific tenant configuration.
Privacy and security boundaries
Authorization metadata should be preserved at ingestion and checked at query time, but a permissions-aware product still depends on correct ACL mappings, account lifecycle and data ownership. Test a terminated employee’s access, an inherited SharePoint permission, and a document that must not cross a departmental boundary. Treat vendor claims about hallucination mitigation as vendor claims, not independent accuracy measurements.
Exports and switching costs
Export the original documents from their source systems, inventory Q index configuration and record search relevance tests. Avoid assuming that a generated Q Business answer, conversation or indexed embedding is a portable backup of enterprise records. Store migration decisions and access-control test results outside the chat.
When an alternative is better
New customers should investigate Amazon Quick or other current supported enterprise knowledge products, subject to their own contract and region. Existing Q Business customers need a deliberate lifecycle and data-governance assessment rather than an abrupt product-name swap.
Pricing, language and regional availability
No plan pricing or universal entitlements are asserted here. A feature documented for one deployment, market or device is not automatically available elsewhere. Check the provider’s dated pricing and local support documentation; the separate dated pricing archive should hold historical price snapshots.
Vendor documentation update — 25 October 2026
AWS documents that Amazon Q Business stopped accepting new customers on 31 July 2026; that is not a claim that existing customer applications were shut down. This is a dated vendor statement, not an independent product test, endorsement, or confirmation of account-specific availability.
