CLOVA X closed in 2026: lessons from Naver’s Korean AI experiment

CLOVA X is a historical product, not an available assistant to recommend.

CLOVA X is a historical product, not an available assistant to recommend. Naver’s own service notice states that the consumer service ended on April 9, 2026 after operating as an experimental interface from August 2023.

What this product actually is

The official Korean-language termination page calls CLOVA X an experiment built around the HyperCLOVA X language-model family. A consumer assistant being retired does not mean the underlying model family or Naver’s other services ceased operations; those must be tracked as different entities.

Who it can help and when

The product matters to the 2020–2026 global archive because a major Korean technology company tested a localized conversation interface and then changed its distribution strategy. Researchers should distinguish historical product coverage from a currently supported signup, API or regional consumer availability.

A realistic first workflow

For a historical case study, begin with Naver’s closure notice and record the operating window. Identify the audience that was served by the experiment, but label undocumented early feature details as unknown. Never send readers to an old trial access page as if registration could still work.

Limitations and decisions the user must make

Closure notices say little about the accuracy of earlier outputs, model architecture or comparative performance. Claims from pre-closure marketing should be separately dated. Product failure or closure is not evidence that the vendor’s entire AI research program failed.

Privacy, permissions and data handling

Users with old conversations should check official account-support channels rather than trusting third-party download tools. Do not assert data retention or a continuing export endpoint without an applicable Naver help document.

Portability, export and avoiding lock-in

The official notice establishes the service shutdown, not a verified bulk export mechanism. Preserve any previously lawfully exported materials under local records policy, including the product version and original acquisition date.

Alternatives and adjacent tools

Wenxin, Doubao and Qwen are other regional assistant products, but none is a direct successor to CLOVA X. Naver HyperCLOVA X is a model-family record for the model and API reference.

Status, availability, and account-specific caveats as of October 25, 2026

This is a historical product profile. Shutdown or deprecation changes its buyer-guide status: the former interface should not be presented as a functioning current service. Earlier users may have different archival entitlements, and migration/export claims require version-specific first-party proof.

Pricing, testing and editorial boundary

No current numeric subscription price, usage quota, API token cost or model benchmark score is asserted in this guide. Those require separate dated primary-source snapshots managed by a dated pricing reference. This profile is not an endorsement, independent product test, legal/security audit or permission to copy screenshots, branding or proprietary documents. Deep model architecture, code agents and imaging features are covered by their respective specialist editorial teams.
