Craft’s AI assistant lives inside a document and note system. That context is useful for revising a draft, but it is important to distinguish AI text suggestions from the authoritative document the author controls.
What this product actually is
Craft launched an AI assistant in November 2022 and has subsequently added context-aware interactions. The current help material documents asking questions, summarizing a document and, on supported platforms, editing content. A January 2025 product announcement discussed on-device AI options, which are not automatically equivalent to the vendor’s cloud-powered tools.
Who it can help and when
Writers can use Craft to organize project notes and edit reports in place. Teams can ask for a structured outline or translate a section while preserving the original. On-device processing may matter for particular tasks, but customers should verify exactly which model and operation are local on their device.
A realistic first workflow
Take a copy of a public document, ask the assistant for an outline, request suggested edits and review each change before accepting. Check headings, links and attributed statements against the original. Compare the result on web and mobile only if the relevant editing controls are actually supported on both.
Limitations and decisions the user must make
A generated summary can leave out conditions and qualifications. Some editing operations work only in particular clients, and offline availability of the document should not be interpreted as offline availability of every AI operation.
Privacy, permissions and data handling
Craft’s documentation describes a distinction between cloud and device AI. For company files, check the active processing mode and administrative agreements rather than relying on the general phrase privacy-first. Do not assume a device model can access every workspace integration.
Portability, export and avoiding lock-in
Keep portable copies of documents and source references. Export features vary with the Craft document type and selected client; the official materials reviewed do not establish lossless preservation of all blocks, embedded widgets and AI chat histories.
Alternatives and adjacent tools
Mem emphasizes associative retrieval; Craft emphasizes structured documents. Google Docs with Gemini may make more sense when organization-wide collaboration and existing document permissions are essential.
Status, availability, and account-specific caveats as of October 25, 2026
This is a first-party documentation profile, not an independently tested or objectively rated product. Account access, supported languages, accessibility support, model selection, data residency, enterprise entitlements and live workflows can differ by country, organization and client version. Where a precise entitlement cannot be verified against a dated first-party source for a specific region and tier, it remains unknown.
Pricing, testing and editorial boundary
No current numeric subscription price, usage quota, API token cost or model benchmark score is asserted in this guide. Those require separate dated primary-source snapshots managed by a dated pricing reference. This profile is not an endorsement, independent product test, legal/security audit or permission to copy screenshots, branding or proprietary documents. Deep model architecture, code agents and imaging features are covered by their respective specialist editorial teams.
