TOOL DOSSIER / THE BROWSER COMPANY OF NEW YORK

Dia in October 2026: an AI browser that can read tabs, not an all-access oracle

Dia blends a Chromium browser with conversational context from tabs and connected tools.

Dia blends a Chromium browser with conversational context from tabs and connected tools. That can make multi-page research faster, but it also changes the security question: what information is permitted to leave a browser session when the user asks for help?

Product: Dia Browser · Lifecycle review: documented current product

What this is — and who should use it

Dia is designed for people whose research and work happen across many live web pages. It is not merely a model selector; features such as tab references, Skills and tool connections sit beside traditional browsing. Atlassian announced an agreement to acquire The Browser Company in September 2025; that announcement alone must not be reported as evidence of a completed ownership transfer on that date.

A real-world decision workflow

For a product-comparison memo, open official specification pages in separate tabs and name only the relevant tabs in the chat. Ask for a side-by-side inventory of claims, then return to each page to verify the version and country. Avoid supplying a logged-in HR or banking tab unless processing it is both authorized and necessary. Finish by saving links and the verified comparison outside the browser chat.

Onboarding, access and deployment

The October 22, 2026 official release notes document distinct versions: macOS 1.54.0 and Windows 1.3.0. Windows gained a Mac sync path and Focus Mode in the cited release, which should not be retroactively applied to Windows 1.0 or older macOS notes. Enterprise connected apps may require identity authentication and connector permissions.

Capability limits and unreliable assumptions

A browser can infer from pages that contain stale prices, hidden sections or dynamically loaded data. Site access does not prove comprehension of every embedded table. Some connected tools are not equivalent to a general open API, and operating-system support can differ by release. The changelog, not a generic features list, is the appropriate source for version-specific rollout.

Privacy and security boundaries

Dia’s policy, effective April 9, 2026, describes collection and processing of personal and content data. Its product security guidance explains that relevant tab content may be sent to servers when a chat requests it; content-sharing for improvement can be controlled in Privacy settings. Test the data controls with a non-sensitive session and inspect connection scopes before linking a work account.

Exports and switching costs

Export or retain conventional browser bookmarks and the original reference URLs; do not assume AI memory or chat history will function as a standardized archive. Verify account-deletion and chat-removal behavior against the current product settings, not a screenshot or another browser’s instructions.

When an alternative is better

Dia may suit tab-heavy research better than a detached chatbot. Comet emphasizes its own integrated browser assistant, and a conventional browser plus a separate assistant gives stricter separation when AI does not need full browsing context.

Pricing, language and regional availability

No plan pricing or universal entitlements are asserted here. A feature documented for one deployment, market or device is not automatically available elsewhere. Check the provider’s dated pricing and local support documentation; the separate dated pricing archive should hold historical price snapshots.
