Opera Aria became Opera AI: what changed and how browser-based assistance works

Anyone researching “Opera Aria” in a 2023 guide needs a dated identity map before following the instructions. Opera introduced Aria in May 2023 and later rebuilt and renamed its browser assistant Opera AI.

What the product actually does

Opera’s May 2023 announcement identifies Aria as a browser assistant built on its Composer infrastructure with web information and text/code help. Opera’s November 21, 2025 release article says its new Opera AI replaced the prior Aria interface with a revised engine, browser context and access point. A January 2026 mobile announcement separately covers the Android name change; iOS and desktop behavior must not be conflated.

A browser AI can support a focused question about an open page, summarize an article, draft text or explain an unfamiliar concept while browsing. The assistant is a contextual reading aid, not a substitute for independently checking the source’s author, publication date and claims.

A practical first workflow

On a supported Opera browser build, locate the Ask AI control. Ask for a summary of the current public page and request a list of exact data points to verify from the webpage yourself. If the feature is enabled for page context, confirm which tab or page is being read before making assumptions about the assistant’s scope.

For a product specification comparison, verify each source site and separate website claims from the assistant’s synthesis. If page context is not available on a particular device, paste a non-sensitive excerpt instead of treating the product as broken or the 2023 onboarding process as current.

Where claims and generated answers can fail

The label “Aria” persists in historical support and iOS material, but this does not indicate a second competing product. Changes to the sidebar location, legacy compose mode and activation path make instructions from older tutorials unreliable.

Opera’s newer AI features may vary across Opera One, GX, Air, Android and iOS. A feature shown in one announcement is not guaranteed on every platform. Free-tier and sign-in details were not standardized across all historical versions in this article.

Privacy, permissions and access boundaries

A browser assistant’s access to tabs and page text is a substantive privacy question. Opera’s product guidance explains controls to disable AI or page access on supported versions; use these controls before visiting sensitive business systems.

Generated web answers can still expose confidential words entered by a user. Review the applicable Opera privacy documentation for the browser build and geography before treating no-account onboarding as proof of data-processing restrictions.

Export, ownership and future portability

Maintain copies of approved text outside the chat panel and preserve the web source URLs. If migrating old Aria instructions into a team playbook, relabel them historical rather than silently updating their date.

Identity mapping should use one product record with a former-name alias, while capabilities need versioned snapshots so a feature introduced in 2026 does not appear in a 2023 release article.

Who should consider an alternative?

Brave Leo is another browser-native assistant with a different approach to privacy. Duck.ai is useful for model-routed chat rather than deep browser UI integration.

How to evaluate it without relying on a sponsored ranking

Choose a small and non-sensitive real task with an answer that can be independently checked. Before testing, record the account, region, language, plan, device and observed user-interface version. Do not infer an exact underlying model ID from the app name; this product profile is not a model release dossier.

Check whether the service meets the entire job: discover, draft, fact-check, permission, revise, export and delete. Separate vendor-described features from any independent outcome evidence. This editorial pass did not conduct hands-on trials, accuracy benchmarks, screenshots or security penetration testing.

Ask the people who own the data and the final work product to approve sharing and publication separately. The productivity benefit only survives if staff can correct a bad output, reverse access and retrieve accepted work when a subscription or product name changes.

Pricing, regional availability and release caveats

This archive records public, provider-documented product functions as reviewed on October 25, 2026. It does not assume that every region, business workspace, operating system or account tier has identical features. Exact regional entitlement, plan quotas, enterprise terms and effective prices are intentionally left unasserted where no matching first-party snapshot was validated.

For current subscription amounts and usage limits, consult a dated pricing registry rather than a copied evergreen price table. Product-level descriptions are not evidence that an application used one fixed model build throughout 2020–2026.

Vendor documentation update — 25 October 2026

Opera documents that Opera AI replaced Aria in its desktop browsers as of late 2025; the article describes a desktop rollout, not universal browser or device parity. This is a dated vendor statement, not an independent product test, endorsement, or confirmation of account-specific availability.
