The important difference among image generators is not a universal beauty ranking. A commercial art director needs a repeatable approval process, a way to revise assets and a reliable rights review. Midjourney V8.2, GPT Image workflows and Adobe Firefly provide different evidence about these needs, but no benchmark here proves one creates superior artwork.

What is actually dated
Midjourney’s version documentation states that V8.2 became the default on 24 July 2026 and introduced an updated Edit Model replacing some earlier reference/edit interfaces. This matters when comparing tutorials recorded on V6 or V7. Adobe documents commercial use in its Firefly FAQ subject to product and beta qualifications. OpenAI documents image generation and image-editing methods, but plan-specific consumer availability and the precise GPT Image model behind a UI may change and must not be inferred from a generic product name.
Start with the deliverable, not the generator
A product page illustration needs the correct packaging shape, readable trademark and rights to use product references. A fashion mood board may prioritize aesthetic exploration and draft speed; a regulated advertising layout may prioritize editable layers, traceability and review. Write three acceptance tests: brand-safe color and composition, unambiguous editable copy, and traceable source rights. Generate assets from approved references only and have a human sign off on visible brands, minors, likenesses and copyrighted material.
A major Midjourney contractual caveat
Midjourney’s service terms distinguish general asset ownership language from specific exceptions, including a plan condition for organizations above a stated annual revenue threshold. This is a contractual statement, not a legal opinion on copyrightability in every country. An organization needs to confirm the right tier and obligations for the current agreement; permissions from a photographer or a featured person remain separate. Do not confuse image privacy options with an intellectual-property indemnity.
Firefly and a production pipeline
Adobe says its non-beta Firefly outputs may be used commercially, and it states conditions for beta features. That does not imply that every uploaded reference, font, logo or marketing claim is licensed. Check which Firefly model and application workflow produced an output, whether the customer needs separate stock imagery and whether the final composition can be handed to a designer for changes. Legal assurances and enterprise indemnities require exact contracts and are not assumed in this guide.
GPT Image and revision
OpenAI’s image-generation documentation supports creating or editing images with prompts and input images; the useful question is whether a studio can retain a consistent background, reflow text and revise a selected region without reauthoring the entire visual. Compare edit operations using the same licensed source photograph, then check image dimensions, export fidelity and manual post-production. Model documentation does not prove that a particular deployment maintains character identity or text accuracy on your chosen campaign.
Decision and unknown costs
The rational shortlist may include more than one tool: aesthetic ideation, controlled retouching and final layout need not use the same provider. Conduct a masked brand-review panel, log defect rates and obtain exact IP/tier terms. No hands-on ranking was performed here. All numeric price and GPU-minute comparisons are intentionally excluded until AI 10 supplies dated, like-for-like snapshots for the chosen region and terms.
